At the recent "Songkran" Ball held
by the Thai-Australian Association at the Hyatt Hotel one of our representatives
won the Miss Songkran Quest.

Artchariya (her name is pronounced
Archery like in bows an arrows) sponsored two young Thai students as entrants
to represent our restaurants in the Miss Songkran Quest. Songkran is the
name of the water festival which celebrates the coming of the rains and
the start of the Thai new year.

Jan who originates from Mukdahan
on the banks of the Mekong River in North-Eastern Thailand is studying
at the Australian Institute for University Studies in preparation for a
course at Curtin University. She has the most unusual hobby for someone
brought up in the tropics. She learnt ice-skating in Bangkok and now she actively
pursues this in Perth.

Khantasinee (Gift) Voratong represented
"Top
End Thai" in the quest.
She is a 24 years old who comes
from the Bangkok suburb of Lad-Proa and is living in North Perth whilst
completing studies at Phoenix Language Academy. Her interests include swimming
and a study of tattoo designs. It is of interest that Thai tattoo differs
from Western design in that the most common themes are based on astrology.
However her number one interest is in modelling and this was apparent in
her poise and confidence in the Quest where she lead the field in classical
Thai dance.
All of us at both "Top
End Thai" and "The Individual
Thai" are proud of Khun Khantasinee's success in winning
the Miss Songkran Quest and we heartily congratulate her.
